Zoning Board of Adjustment
The principal role of the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) is to review and rule on zoning ordinance relief applications seeking variances, special exceptions, or appeals of decisions made by administrative officials. The ZBA provides the necessary flexibility to ensure that the zoning ordinance is applied equitably to all properties. ZBA members are elected for 3-year terms.
If a relief application is submitted, the ZBA meets on the fourth (4th) Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm to review and vote on the relief application. Please contact the Planning & Zoning Administrator for information regarding application submission. Meeting notices are posted at Town Administration buildings and published in the Portsmouth Herald and on the Town website a minimum of 5 days prior to each meeting. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend all meetings.
Apply to the Zoning Board of Adjustment for:
- Appeal from a Decision of an Administrative Officer
- Request for Variance
- Request for Special Exception
- Request for Equitable Waiver of Dimensional Requirement
- Appeal of Planning Board Decision
