Police Department
Message from Chief Walsh
On behalf of the North Hampton Police Department, I am honored and privileged to be the leader of this department.
The men and women employed are committed to providing quality police services to our citizens, those who visit and those who work in our community. This web site offers you an opportunity to look at our department and some services we have to offer you.
Our goal is to engage and collaborate with the community to identify and solve problems related to crime and social disorder. North Hampton officers focus on proactive measures to prevent crime and enhance the safety of the community, rather than just responding to incidents. Our department utilizes technology and data analytics to perform policing strategies and improve efficiency in operations and resource allocation.
North Hampton officers foster trust by ensuring accountability through transparency, oversight, and community feedback to maintain public trust and integrity.
Community partnerships, problem solving, and accountability guide the officers in effective law enforcement within the community.
Sincerely,
Chief Kevin Walsh
The North Hampton Police Department now provides at-home drug deactivation and disposal pouches to help prevent medication misuse
The Deterra Pouches are a safe, effective way to permanently destroy unwanted drugs
North Hampton, NH– April 14, 2025 – As drug overdoses in the United States continue to hit record highs — over 109,000 Americans died of overdoses in the 12-month period ending in March 2022, according to the CDC — drug misuse prevention tools are more important than ever.
That’s why the North Hampton Police Department is providing the community with the Deterra® Drug Deactivation and Disposal System for permanent, at-home drug disposal.
The North Hampton Police Department is distributing Deterra Pouches to help local households prevent medication misuse, accidental ingestion, and environmental harm by safely deactivating and disposing of unwanted medications.
“Dependence on prescription painkillers often starts in the home medicine cabinet, where family members and friends can easily access unused and expired medication,” said Deputy Chief of Police Thomas Scotti. “By using these at-home drug deactivation and disposal pouches, we can help prevent substance misuse in North Hampton before it starts. Currently, the North Hampton Police Department participates in the DEA Drug Takeback program semi-annually. We feel this initiative does not meet the needs of our citizens and we found this solution that reaches more people and removes unused prescription drugs from homes on a much more frequent basis. Every day should be drug takeback day in North Hampton”
In a simple 3-step process, a user deactivates drugs by putting them in a Deterra Pouch, adding water, shaking, and throwing them away in the household garbage. Each large pouch uses organic activated carbon to deactivate up to 90 pills, 12 ounces of liquid, or up to 12 patches. Each medium pouch can deactivate up to 45 pills, 6 ounces of liquid, or up to 6 patches.
Deterra’s plant-based packaging and non-toxic ingredients also prevent harmful chemicals from entering our landfills and water supplies, making the world safer for everyone.
The pouches will be available at the North Hampton Police Department, Town Hall, and Fire Department. Officers will also have bags available in their patrol cars for distribution as well
