Wreaths Across America

The Wreaths Across America (WAA) convoy is coming through North Hampton this year and is expected to be traveling through NH and through the Town of North Hampton on Monday, December 12th, 2016. Since 2008, Congress has issued a proclamation officially recognizing “National Wreaths Across America Day”, and on December 12, 2015 the US Senate through resolution S. Res. 331 designated December 12, 2015 as “Wreaths Across America Day”, and the resolution honoring A) Wreaths Across America project, B) Patriotic Escort Units to include motorcycle units, law enforcement units, first responders, trucking industry, and volunteers and others involved in this worthy tradition, and recognizes the service of veterans and members of the Armed Services and the sacrifices they and their families have made and continue to make for the United States.

The convoy begins on December 10 with services and ceremonies in Lubec, Maine and Calais, Maine. On December 11 it leaves Harrington, Maine at 8:00 am via Route 1 and ends in Westbrook, Maine. On December 12th it leaves Westbrook at 8:15 am via Route 1 south. It arrives in Kittery, Maine at the Kittery Trading Post at 11:45 am. At 1:00 pm it leaves the Kittery Trading Post and is escorted to Greenland (NH) by Greenland Police, and then be traveling out of Greenland on Rte. 151 (Post Road) through North Hampton to Rte. 1 south (Lafayette Road) in Hampton. The anticipated time frame through North Hampton is between 1:00 pm -1:45 pm, arriving at the American Legion in Hampton at about 1:45 pm for a 2:00 pm ceremony. The drive through Greenland is in memory and honor of Greenland Chief Mike Maloney.

It is anticipated this year's convoy to include up to 20 POVs, an unknown # of M/Cs (Patriot Guard Riders, weather will play a factor), 12 TTs, 1 bus, 1 15-passenger van, and up to 5 marked cruisers from different departments throughout Maine. The cruisers are for visibility and public awareness. The escort involves coordination of police agencies throughout the Northeast including municipal, county, and state police.
