North Hampton Fire & Rescue Patch

It is the mission of the North Hampton Fire & Rescue to provide a high quality level of fire, rescue and pre-hospital emergency medical services. These services are provided through a highly trained and adaptable force of personnel who employ modern prevention, education, suppression, rescue and medical practices.

North Hampton Fire & Rescue is a full-time fire department that offers 24/7 fire, rescue and emergency medical services to the citizens and visitors of North Hampton.  The department responds to an average of 1200 emergency runs annually and provides protection from a compliment of fourteen (14) full time Firefighters, Paramedics and Advanced EMT's.  These professionals work divided across four different shifts that work two 24-hour tours on a rotating schedule.  Daily, there are three (3) firefighters (1 Fire Lieutenant/AEMT, 1 Firefighter/AEMT, 1 Firefighter/Paramedic) on duty around the clock with an additional management and administrative staff of two (2), the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief that work Monday through Friday.

The department employs highly trained, skilled professionals that are adept in firefighting, the technical rescue of trapped and injured people, are trained to handle hazardous materials incidents and provides Advanced Life Support capabilities delivered by Paramedics and Advanced EMT’s.  Members are responsible for conducting regularly scheduled inspections, code enforcement, prevention and educational programs to the public, fire and medical training of staff, along with a multitude of clerical and administrative duties when not responding to emergencies.  Annually, the department conducts hundreds of life safety inspections congruent to the State Fire Code and the National Fire Protection Association’s (NFPA) Life Safety Code.

The department is responsible for the protection of many historic, unsprinklered (unprotected) buildings, 1,530 residential structures, 182 businesses, and 400 manufactured residential homes - homes to which are in close proximity to one another which poses a significant challenge and additional fire threat to properties and life.  There is a total of $589,977,500 valued in taxable buildings that the members of North Hampton Fire & Rescue are responsible for at any given time.  The building of new residential dwellings continues throughout town every year, adding to the residential population and number of properties that require protection.

Recent statistics provided by the state of New Hampshire, shows that the average daily volume of traffic that travels through North Hampton’s many roadways is estimated at around 80,000 vehicles.  Interstate 95 has an average of 60,000 vehicles that travel through on a daily basis (in the summertime, that volume increases to over 85,000) leaving an estimated 20,000 vehicles that commute through North Hampton's heavily traveled roads, many of which constitute for the transportation of numerous hazardous materials through town.  These statistics alone are staggering and add to the demand for fire protection, technical rescue capabilities and EMS.

The town of North Hampton is unique to other communities in the area when considering what the department is tasked to protect with what we call “target hazards”.  It boasts a large corridor of US Route1 that consists of many commercial, industrial and professional businesses, establishments that includes local shopping and dining attractions, a mutlitude of professional offices and US Interstate 95 and state roads Routes 111 and 151 that brings in a heavy traffic volume that includes the transportation of hazardous materials.  North Hampton State Beach along Route 1A and the busy Hampton Airfield are other major attractions that brings in an increase of visitation and recreational activities.  Despite the modest residential population of town, these factors dramatically increase the daily population in town and accounts for additional hazards.  The department is not only responsible for the protection of its residential population of almost 4600 residents, but is responsible for the protection of all people that work, conduct business, shop, dine and commute through North Hampton, which the daily population in town increases exponentially; a significantly larger population that needs to be considered.

Since the department is a fully staffed career organization, the average response time to an emergency in town is 3 to 4 minutes.  In that time, North Hampton Fire & Rescue’s highly-trained staff is there to solve and alleviate any emergency.  It takes a team of highly educated, trained and committed professionals to be able to successfully perform the duties firefighters and paramedics are tasked with.

North Hampton Fire & Rescue has for years been a service that many have depended on; a service that has been proven to save lives and protect property.  An innumerable amount of potentially devastating fires in homes have been immediately quelled due to an instant, rapid response with quick extinguishment, protecting and preserving homes and personal property.  Over 300 patient transports to area hospitals annually, many of whom were seriously and critically sick or injured, shows that countless lives have been directly affected and have benefited because of the expert care and the multitude of services delivered by our professional staff.
