Why did the Sheriff's Department answer when I called the North Hampton Police?
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Department is the primary dispatch center for the North Hampton Police Department. They handle all emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They also handle non-emergency calls after business hours.
Does the North Hampton Police Department offer fingerprinting services for employment purposes?
Fingerprints are only taken for residents or people applying to the North Hampton Elementary School. This is a free service. The service is provided anytime (provided officers aren't busy with an emergency) but it's best if you can be here before 4:00. It is always recommended that you call just before coming to the station. Please bring your fingerprint card (supplied by your employer) and your valid driver's license.
How do I get a permit for a yard sale?
Yard sale permits are available at the police station during normal business hours, Mon., Tues., Thurs. and Fri. 8:00 to 4:00 and Wed. 10:00 to 6:00. There is a $5 fee that can be paid by cash or check made payable to the Town of North Hampton. Residents are permitted to have 2 yard sales in a calendar year. Each permit allows for up to 3 consecutive days and there must be at least 30 days in between each permit. Please be mindful of parking. Yard sale shoppers should not park in a way that interferes with the flow of traffic, we want everyone to be safe.
What do I do if I lose electricity?
To report a power outage, call Public Service of New Hampshire (PSNH) at (800) 662-7764, or go to the PSNH storm center. On the website are tips for storm preparation, power outage information, and important safety tips.
If you find downed power lines, stay away and dial 911.
I'm going on vacation, should I notify the Police Department?
Whether you are going on vacation for a few days or you are leaving your summer home for the off-season, we encourage you to complete the vacant residence request form on our forms page. What are the laws regarding seatbelts and children?
As of January 1, 2004 RSA 265:107-a, Child Passenger Restraints Required- states that anyone under the age of 18 must wear a seatbelt, if the person is less than 6 years old and less than 55 inches they must be secured by a child passenger restraint (car seat,etc.).

If the North Hampton Police Department picks up a loose dog, it is generally brought to Woodes Kennels. If the dog has a license affixed to the collar (as required by State Law), officers may try to contact the owner before taking it into custody. If the dog is brought to the kennel, the owner will need to complete an animal release form at the police department first, before picking up the dog. If it is after business hours, the owner must wait until the next business day until the kennel is open. The dog owner may be subject to a summons, especially if there are prior offenses.
